IND A vs AUS A 2025: Australian fast bowler Henry Thornton hospitalized after suspecting food poisoning

During the ongoing India A vs Australia A series in Kanpur, Australian pacer Henry Thornton was rushed to the hospital after suffering a suspected case of food poisoning. The 27-year-old fast bowler, who is part of the Australia A squad touring India, developed a severe stomach infection and had to be admitted to a private hospital.

According to team officials, Thornton had been experiencing mild stomach discomfort before arriving in Kanpur. However, his condition worsened significantly after consuming food at the team hotel. When his symptoms escalated, he was taken to Regency Hospital, where doctors diagnosed a gastrointestinal infection and kept him under observation for two days.

Thankfully, Thornton has recovered well and has since been discharged. He has rejoined his teammates and is expected to be available for the remainder of the tour. The Australian camp has tightened dietary protocols for the entire squad. According to a Hindustan Times report, three other players have complained of minor stomach trouble, though none required hospitalisation.

India-Australia gear for series decider

Meanwhile, the visitors put in a clinical performance in the second unofficial ODI at Green Park Stadium to level the three-match series 1-1. India A, who won the first game comprehensively, opted to bat first but were bowled out for 246 in 45.5 overs.

Tilak Varma once again grabbed headlines with a superb 94, while Riyan Parag contributed a 58. However, their 101-run partnership was broken, and a middle-order collapse put India on the back foot. Jack Edwards was the pick of the bowlers for Australia, returning figures of 4 for 56, while Will Sutherland also chipped in with early breakthroughs.

A mid-game rain led to a DLS revision of the target. Australia were set 160 runs in 25 overs, and they made light work of it. Jake Fraser-McGurk provided a quick start with 36 off just 20 balls, before Mackenzie Harvey (70* off 49) and Cooper Connolly (50* off 31) stitched together a 103-run partnership to seal a dominant nine-wicket win in just 16.4 overs. With India A winning the first ODI by 171 runs and Australia A bouncing back in the second, the series is now levelled at 1-1. The final game, also scheduled in Kanpur, is set to act as a series decider.
