Day 2 of the ongoing first Test between India and Australia saw Rohit Sharma become the first player to score a hundred in the series. His intent was to attack the bowlers from the start and block out the good deliveries. He looked in good touch and was eyeing a big innings today. He was there on the crease when India crossed the Australian total and gained the lead.

Other batters certainly took their time on the tricky pitch where run scoring wasn't easy at all. The mainstays of the Indian team Cheteshwar Pujara and Virat Kohli took their time but weren't able to capitalise on their start.

The same can be said for the debutants KS Bharat and Suryakumar Yadav. The all-rounders of the side Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin gave good support and built partnerships with skipper Rohit Sharma.

The Indian team batting coach, Vikram Rathour said in the press conference following the action on Day 2, “Today’s innings was special, showed good temperament. Special temperament, run-making was not easy. He adapts really well, that’s the quality he has. We know how he plays in India, he went to England and changed his game. Today also he showed his adaptability," as reported by News18.

The batting coach also spoke about KL Rahul's recent form. He said, “To be fair to KL (Rahul) in the last 10 innings he has played he has a couple of fifties and a couple of hundreds, I don’t think we are there."

India have a 144-run lead at stumps on Day 2 of the first Test with two set batters in the form of Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel still at the crease. The spin duo has completed its fifties already and is piling on the runs for India.

They have looked solid at the crease and would be looking to increase India's lead even further on Day 3. Australia on the other hand would be looking to wrap things up quickly and get their second innings underway.
