Ahead of the fourth Test between India versus Australia at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, BCCI secretary Jay Shah felicitated the Indian Prime Minister, who was present along with his Australian counterpart in Anthony Albanese.
Ahead of the toss, both the politicians were seen presenting the Test caps to skipper Rohit Sharma and stand-in skipper Steve Smith, who’s filling in as Pat Cummins was previously ruled out of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy. After that, Shri Narendra Modi was seen flicking the coin during the toss, which Steve Smith managed to win and decided to bat first.
Soon after that, the respected Prime Ministers had a lap of honour across the ground to celebrate 75 years of friendship between India and Australia.
Narendra Modi sings National Anthem with the Indian squad
Just ahead of the start of the day, both teams took the centre stage to sing the national anthem. During which, the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi was spotted in the same frame along with skipper Rohit Sharma and star player Virat Kohli.
Meanwhile, the pitch is expected to play better than the third Test in Indore. It is very likely to assist the spinners but will play better than the previous match. It looked slightly damned early in the morning but it also has an even covering of grass. There are a few dry patches as well.
Thus, batting in the fourth innings will be extremely difficult and thus, it’s a good toss for Australia to win. India skipper Rohit Sharma too expressed his desire to bat first but failed to win the toss. Meanwhile, India named one change to their squad as Mohammed Shami is making his return, replacing Mohammed Siraj. On the other hand, the Australian team have decided to play the same squad.
When it comes to the match, the Steve Smith-led side had a great start to the session. Opener Travis Head looked in brilliant touch as the Kangaroos are in the driver’s seat after an hour’s play.
