It was a records galore at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati as India went past West Indies's 405-7 to register a gigantic run chase in the second ODI of the series on Wednesday, September 30. The run chase was guided by India's solid opening duo of skipper Shubman Gill and former captain Rohit Sharma.

While the Men in Blue opted to bowl first after winning the toss, the decision seem to have backfired as the Caribbean batters launched a scathing attack against an underpowered bowling unit. John Campbell (101) and Shai Hope (104) added 110 runs for the second wicket as the opener departed off a Gurnoor Brar ball in the 19th over.

West Indies' best was on display thereafter, as Hope got a more-than-able partner in Amir Jangoo (114 off 77), ensuring there was no fall of wickets for the next 21 overs before Kuldeep Yadav broke the partnership. Kuldeep later also accounted for Keemo Paul. Senior spinner Ravindra Jadeja also picked up a couple of wickets, while also affecting a run-out dismissal towards the fag end of the innings.

Looking at the pitch conditions, Hope's bowling attack must have been wary of the danger that the Indian top order posed even before the run chase began. However, they were certainly not prepared for an unworldly onslaught put on by Rohit and Gill. The duo did not get intimidated by the total and made full use of the first powerplay, adding 92 runs without any trouble.

Both the openers then picked up pace and dispatched everything that came their way. Rohit smashed his 35th century in one-day internationals, a major milestone for the 39-year-old, before being dismissed for 101 off 75. Gill did not stop, though. None of the Windies bowlers had a clue on how to put a break to Gill's pedal. If at all anything else was needed, Virat Kohli added 29 off 19, while Ruturaj stayed unbeaten on 31 off 37, as India chased down the total with eight wickets in hand in addition to 39 balls remaining.

Top Batting Performance: Shubman Gill

The Indian skipper came determined and did not return back to the dressing room without finishing things off. With an astonishing stroke-making and sublime shots to the delight of the Guwahati fans, Gill smashed an unbeaten 223-run knock off just 133, an outing that included 26 fours and eight sixes.

Top Bowling Performance: Kuldeep Yadav

On a day where there was little for the bowlers, India's Kuldeep Yadav stood out. Kuldeep's ten-over spell in Guwahati produced 65 runs while also getting a couple of important breakthroughs in the middle. With the help of these two wickets, Kuldeep also completed the milestone of 200 wickets in the format for the Indian team, becoming the most recent addition to the elite list.
