Dinesh Karthik has suggested that India's top-order combination of Abhishek Sharma, Vaibhav Suryavanshi and Sanju Samson is unlikely to retain their place in the playing XI for the upcoming five-match T20I series against West Indies. The explosive trio featured together in recent matches against Sri Lanka and Pakistan during the Asian Games 2026, but Karthik believes the conditions and team requirements in India will necessitate a different approach.

He noted that the team management had the luxury of fielding only one frontline seamer during the Asian Games in Japan due to the spin-friendly conditions there. However, the situation changes when India plays at home.

"Not really, because you will need more pacers. There in Japan, we just played one pacer. In India, you will need two pacers, if not three. So, you will definitely not see that (the same batting order). As far as the bowling is concerned, Jasprit Bumrah is rested for this series, it gives him an opportunity to breathe before he goes to New Zealand. You can definitely see the focus of the Indian team is on Test cricket right now. T20 is not something that they are going to put their heart and soul into in terms of looking at what they want because there is a lot of time before the next World Cup," Karthik said as quoted by Cricbuzz.

Karthik's assessment highlights the team management's strategic priorities heading into the West Indies series. The resting of Bumrah, India's premier fast bowler, underscores the emphasis on managing workload and preparing key players for the New Zealand tour. The five-match T20I series against West Indies begins on October 6 in Lucknow, marking the start of India's home campaign in the format.
