After being sacked as the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), former cricketer Ramiz Raja has made multiple bold statements that shocked the cricketing world in recent times. His latest one saw the 60-year-old taking a dig at India after Pakistan managed to beat the Men in Blue in the Asia Cup and also qualified for the finals of the T20 World Cup, which the Rohit Sharma-led side couldn’t.
The former PCB chairman also lauded the Men in Green for their outstanding performance in white-ball cricket during his tenure. Referring to that, Raja believes that the Indian management couldn’t stand Pakistan’s growth and thus, took some massive steps, changing their entire cricketing set-up to compete against the Babar Azam-led side.
“We gave outstanding performances in white-ball cricket. We played the Asia Cup final, India didn't play that. India, a billion-dollar industry, was left behind. They fired their chief selector, selection committee, changed the captain because they couldn't digest how Pakistan went ahead of them,” Ramiz Raja said while talking to Suno TV.
I tried my level best to keep this team united, I empowered Babar Azam: Raja
Despite qualifying for the finals of two major trophies, Pakistan couldn’t win any of them. Their recent failure against England in the Test series too played a part in Ramiz Raja’s sacking from the board. However, the former cricketer justified his time as PCB head and also mentioned how he tried to keep the team united and empowered the Pakistan skipper during his reign.
“I tried my level best to keep this team united. I empowered Babar Azam. Cricket is one of those rare sports where captaincy is relevant. If your captain is powerful, results will come, and we have given results,” said Ramiz Raja.
Meanwhile, the power recently shifted in PCB which saw Najam Sethi once again taking the role of the chairman while Shahid Afridi has been appointed as the interim chief selector of the team.
