India, England players observe a moment of silence ahead of first Test to pay tribute to Ahmedabad plane crash victims

The Air India AI-171 bound for London crashed shortly after takeoff from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport, Ahmedabad on Thursday, June 12. 274 people lost their lives: 241 passengers and 33 on-ground people. According to the latest reports, DNA samples confirmed the identities of 215 individuals, while mortal remains of 198 victims were handed to families.

On Friday, June 20, ahead of the first Test between England and India at Headingley, Leeds, players of both teams observed a moment of silence to pay tribute to the deceased souls and stood in solidarity with the aggrieved families.

"The Indian Cricket Team and the England Cricket Team observed a moment of silence in memory of the victims of the Ahmedabad plane crash ahead of the start of play on Day 1 of the first Test at Headingley, Leeds. The teams are wearing the black armbands to express solidarity with those affected. India get off to solid start

Ben Stokes won the toss and opted to bowl first. However, his pacers haven't been able to make early inroads, with KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal notching up a 44-run stand heading into the first official Drinks Break of the five-match series.
