With three centuries in his last four appearances in the Indian Premier League, Shubman Gill has broken multiple records and is currently the talk of the town. His 129 runs off just 60 deliveries against Mumbai Indians in Qualifier 2 is being regarded as one of the greatest knocks in the history of IPL playoffs, and in the final against Chennai Super Kings, if the 23-year-old manages to score 123 runs or more, he will break Virat Kohli’s record of 973 runs in a single season of IPL and will mark his authority.
Notably, the cricketer is also the current holder of the IPL Orange Cap. He has managed to score 851 runs in 16 matches so far, and at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, the opener has a sensational record. Thus, the team management will be hopeful that the cricketer can once again deliver in the final and help GT win their second title in as many years.
Meanwhile, talking about Gill’s impact, former India international Sanjay Manjrekar stated that the Punjab-born cricketer can be the guy who leads the Indian batting unit in the next decade. Calling him a three-format player, Manjrekar mentioned that Gill has the potential to be the guy for the next generation.
“This is when you see a player and think there is something special to offer in the future. You look at all those years that he has played in the IPL, and how quickly he has risen to the pinnacle of T20 batting, that is something few batters manage to achieve. A three-format player, he is going to be opening for India in the World Test Championship final. India gets one player every generation that stood out; maybe Shubman Gill is the guy for the next generation” said Manjrekar on ESPNCricinfo.
Notably, after hitting his third century in the cash-rich league, India skipper Rohit Sharma congratulated Gill for his tremendous knock while star batters in the form of Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant too praised the youngster on social media.
