Promising young cricketer Fareed Khan from Poonch, Jammu and Kashmir, lost his life in a tragic road accident. The youngster was fatally injured after being hit by a car's door while riding his bike.
According to CCTV visuals, the accident took place when Fareed was riding his two-wheeler on a local road. A passenger in the car parked on the roadside opened its door without warning, directly in the path of his motorcycle. The sudden impact flung him off balance, and despite the efforts of bystanders who rushed to his aid, the injuries proved fatal.
The incident has left Poonch mourning the loss of a talented cricketer who was seen as an inspiration for many budding players in the region. His passion and dedication to the game had made him a well-recognised figure in the local cricketing circles. Many are now calling for greater road safety awareness, especially regarding careless parking practices, to prevent such tragedies in the future.
Fareed's unfortunate demise also brought light on the past accidents involving cricketers around the world. In May 2022, former Australian legend Andrew Symonds died in a car accident when his vehicle overturned off the road in Townsville, Queensland. Later that year, in December 2022, former England all-rounder Andrew Flintoff narrowly escaped a horrific accident while filming an episode of BBC’s show Top Gear.
Indian wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant was involved in a terrifying car accident on December 30, 2022. His BMW collided with a road divider on the Delhi-Dehradun highway, leaving him with severe head, back, and leg injuries. Pant underwent an extended recovery of more than 18 months before making a return to international cricket during the T20 World Cup 2024.
