India's off-spin resources in red-ball cricket are under scrutiny, with Washington Sundar standing out as the most experienced option available to the national selectors. The concern around depth has grown sharper as several players across the squad manage fitness issues at the same time.

Sundar has been named in India's squad for the three-match T20I series against Afghanistan, scheduled for September 13, 15, and 17, 2026 in New Delhi. His inclusion is conditional on a fitness clearance, as he is recovering from a hamstring injury. Jasprit Bumrah, Nitish Kumar Reddy and Harshit Rana are similarly listed subject to fitness clearance in the same squad, which is captained by Shreyas Iyer.

According to reports, BCCI selectors are more confident about Bumrah and Reddy being available in time, while the positions of Sundar and Rana ahead of the series opener remain less certain.
