Delhi Capitals (DC) express pacer Anrich Nortje has headed back to South Africa citing personal emergency ahead of the clash against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on Saturday, May 6. The franchise took to their social media handle to share the pacer’s momentary exit from the ongoing IPL 2023.
As per latest developments, Nortje will not feature in the forthcoming clash against RCB which is scheduled to take place on Saturday, May 6. DC shared an official update on the pacer, citing emergency and it is yet to be determined when he will return for the remaining fixtures.
“Owing to a personal emergency, Delhi Capitals fast bowler Anrich Nortje had to leave for South Africa late on Friday night. He will be unavailable for this evening’s game against Royal Challengers Bangalore,” captioned DC on their Twitter account.
Of the eight matches played in the league, Nortje has scalped seven wickets with his best spell being 2/20. Notably, DC will square off with RCB at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi in the second double-header on Saturday.
DC virtually out of playoffs race
Languishing at the bottom of the IPL Points Table, DC have mere three wins in the nine matches thus far at a dismal Net Run Rate (NRR) of -0.768. While they have an outside chance of qualifying for the top four, a loss in any one of the upcoming fixtures will result in their elimination from the playoffs.
David Warner and Co. registered five losses on the trot in the start of their campaign. However, Delhi have bounced back with three wins in their last four games and will look to keep their momentum intact.
As per the last five head-to-head records, RCB have a massive upper hand as they have won four of the clashes with Delhi winning just once. Warner and Co. will look to avoid a second straight defeat against RCB in the ongoing edition after their first loss in April 15.
