Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) dealt with a major blow as their wicketkeeper-batter Litton Das has flown back home due to a family medical emergency. He is likely to miss KKR's upcoming fixtures in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL). Moreover, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) have issued the 'No Objection Certificate' to Das till May 4, which could keep him away from participating ahead.

The Bangladesh keeper-batter who joined the squad after a couple of matches has played only KKR's match against Delhi Capitals (DC) in the ongoing IPL. He failed to perform well in the match as he fell cheaply and also capped a disappointing outing as a wicketkeeper by missing two crucial stumping opportunities, allowing DC to capitalize on it and turn the match in their favour.

“He had a family medical emergency for which he had to fly back to Dhaka this morning. There is no update on his return yet,” a team official said on Friday.

The 28-year-old was bought by the two-time champions at the IPL 2023 mini-auction for a base price of INR 50 lakh. The Nitish Rana-led side are currently placed seventh in the IPL Points Table with three wins. They have to bounce back in their remaining matches in order to keep themselves in playoff contention.

Kolkata Knight Riders beat Royal Challengers Bangalore by 21 runs

After four straight losses, KKR managed to win a match in the IPL 2023, defeating Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) by 21 runs at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, in Bengaluru, on April 26. The stand-in skipper Virat Kohli of RCB won the toss and chose to field first. However, the decision backfired as the RCB bowlers failed to keep the KKR batters under check and allowed them to score freely.

With opener, Jason Roy (56 off 29) scoring a quick half-century and skipper Nitish Rana's (48 off 21) brilliant cameo propelled Kolkata to a mammoth total of 200 runs in 20 overs. Notably, Rana was dropped twice in what was a shoddy fielding effort by the home side. During RCB's chase, KKR bowlers produced a clinical performance as they restricted the home side to 179/8 to register a 21-run win.

Virat Kohli (54 off 37) led his side from the front while the rest of the batters failed to support him from the other end. Only Mahipal Lomror (34 off 18) and Dinesh Karthik (22 off 18) tried to take time on the crease but in vain. Interestingly, the Knights have not lost at the Chinnaswamy Stadium since 2016.
