IPL 2023: Sai Sudharsan gets standing ovation after setting final night on fire with sublime 96

The IPL final 2023 finally got underway on Monday, May 29 as Chennai Super Kings took on Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. CSK captain MS Dhoni won the toss and invited GT to bat first in the big clash. The opportunity was happily accepted by the defending champions as they posted a monumental score of 214/4 in the first innings riding on a scintillating innings from Sai Sudharsan who scored 96 off 47 balls.

Despite playing his first IPL fina,l the 21-year-old didn't get under pressure on the big occasion and smacked CSK’s bowling attack for eight fours and six sixes in his innings. His innings was cut short in the final over as he got dismissed by Matheesha Pathirana who trapped him in front of the stumps to leave him four runs short of his hundred.

Sudharsan departed after scoring 96 and registered the third-highest score in the history of the IPL final after Shane Watson (117*) and Wriddhiman Saha (115*). At the end of his innings, the youngster got a standing ovation from the packed crowd in Ahmedabad as fans stood up to appreciate his phenomenal innings and even GT dugout applauded him by standing up.
