Match 60 of IPL 2024 between the Kolkata Knight Riders and the Mumbai Indians will be the seventh and final match of this season's edition to be played at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata. Of the six matches held at Eden Gardens during this season, KKR has triumphed in four, mirroring the number of victories by teams chasing.
As the tournament nears its conclusion, the competition for a place in the playoffs is becoming increasingly fierce. However, there's been a notable contrast in the fortunes of the competing teams, with the visiting side lagging in ninth position with just eight points, while the home team sits comfortably at 16, despite having played one game less.
KKR, possessing the best net run rate out of the competing teams (+1.453), need a single victory in their remaining three games to go through to the playoffs, irrespective of where they land up between first position and fourth place. On the other hand, MI already got knocked out post the Sunrisers Hyderabad handed the Lucknow Super Giants a mauling 10-wicket loss on May 8, a match where quite a number of records were shattered during the run-chase.

However, it's worth pointing out that there were instances of rain at the venue in Kolkata before the scheduled fixture. Given the significant interest from various franchises who bank on the outcome of this fixture between KKR and MI on May 11, it's imperative to delve deeper into the potential impact of adverse weather conditions on proceedings.
What will happen if the game between KKR and MI washes out?
As per forecasts by AccuWeather, as the night metamorphoses into graver darkness. there seems to be a forecast of constant drizling and medium-level rainfall. The situation hasn't improved yet as of now, and no real progress has been made, with there being constant showers since the afternoon, coupled with bouts of lightning. With the level of rainfall which has already precipitated, it'll easily take an hour to an hour and a half to get the covers off the field. A couple of thunderstorms are also expected to transpire late in the night.

Following the stipulations of the IPL 2024 Playing Conditions, if rain delays the start of the match, overs will be deducted from 8:30 pm onwards, at a rate of 14.11 overs per hour, with the revised number of overs based on the remaining time available for play.
