Punjab Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad came to Mullanpur stadium to play their fifth game of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season. Shikhar Dhawan won the toss and chose to bowl first as both sides went in with the same sides that had won their respective matches.
Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma couldn’t continue their blistering exploits as the duo fell early. Young Nitish Reddy chose the occasion to rise up and score his first half-century of IPL. The right-handed batter hit 64 runs off 37 balls with four boundaries and 5 sixes.

Arshdeep Singh was the best bowler for PBKS as he picked 4/29 from his four overs. Harshal Patel and Sam Curran picked two wickets each while Kagiso Rabada could manage only one wicket as SRH posted 182/9 on the board.
Powerplay: Overs 0.1 to 6 and (Mandatory – 27/3)
Chasing 183 to win, Punjab Kings lost three early wickets. Pat Cummins got the big wicket of Jonny Bairstow. Bhuvneshwar Kumar then got Prabhsimran Singh and Shikhar Dhawan.
Punjab Kings: First Strategic Time-out (49/3 from 8 overs)
The loss of three early wickets had pegged back the Punjab Kings outfit. Sikandar Raza and Sam Curran though came out swinging as they counter-attacked with the few boundaries.

Punjab Kings: 50 runs in 8.2 overs
After the first time-out was taken the 50 runs came up for PBKS at exactly six runs per over. At that stage, the home team needed 133 runs from 70 balls with 7 wickets in the bank.
Stat Alert: Sam Curran 3000 runs in T20 cricket
English star all-rounder Sam Curran reached a key landmark during his 29-run knock vs SRH. The left-handed batter reached 3000 T20 runs before falling to T Natarajan thanks to a terrific catch by Pat Cummins.
Punjab Kings: Second Strategic Time-out (91/4 from 13 overs)
The loss of Sam Curran in the 10th over dealt a huge setback to the home team. Sikandar Raza was joined by Shashank Singh as the Zimbabwean star played some crunchy shots to give some hope to PBKS.

In the very first ball after the second time-out, PBKS lost their fifth wicket. Jaydev Unadkat saw the Zimbabwe batter try to scoop the ball only to be caught by Heinrich Klaasen.
Punjab Kings: 150 runs from 18.4 Overs
Two heroes from the last game Ashutosh Sharma and Shashank Singh played a few lusty shots. This gave some hope to the home team in pursuit of the 183-run target.
End of the Match: Punjab Kings: 180/6 from 20 overs
Needing 29 off 6 balls, Ashutosh Sharma hit Jaydev Unadkat for a first-ball six. The next two balls yielded two wide-balls. Ashutosh hit yet another six as both sixes were parried over the ropes. Unadkat kept his cool to give his side the much-needed win despite three dropped catches in the final over.
