In a comical flow of events, Ravi Shastri made a huge blunder in announcing Shreyas Iyer and Punjab Kings' decision on winning the toss during the Finals of the 2025 edition of the Indian Premier League against Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Tuesday, June 3. The iconic commentator was deployed by the BCCI to be the anchor for the toss.

Iyer called 'tails' and the coin fell in the dynamic batter's favour. Iyer elaborated on having a positive mindset during the game and remarked on the chat he had had with his side ahead of the game. Coming to Rajat Patidar, he revealed that he would have opted to field first too. Both sides announced an unchanged XI. Shastri extended the usual declaration by a bit, but ended up signalling that PBKS would like to have a bat first before quickly amending his words.

This will be the fourth time PBKS will be taking on RCB this season. Both sides won their respective home games. RCB turned out as comprehensive victors in Qualifier 1 in New Chandigarh. They registered a massive eight-wicket victory with 60 deliveries to spare. PBKS defeated Mumbai Indians in Qualifier 2 by five wickets to set up another encounter against RCB.

Coming to the league phase, both sides ended up on 19 points each. PBKS and RCB ended up on first and second place on the points table, respectively. PBKS and RCB both won nine, lost four, and had one game deemed as a no-result due to rain.

RCB and PBKS last featured in the summit clash of the IPL in 2016 and 2014, respectively. Both the games, which were played at the Chinnaswamy, ended up in heartbreak. Sunrisers Hyderabad and Kolkata Knight Riders ended up clinching their first and second titles, respectively.
