Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) recorded their highest successful chase in IPL history, chasing down 228 to defeat Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and book a spot in Qualifier 1 against Punjab Kings.
Stand-in captain Jitesh Sharma was the hero of the game at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow, playing an impressive unbeaten knock of 85 off just 33 balls. His innings, laced with eight boundaries and six sixes, took the team over the line. Mayank Agarwal played a crucial knock as well, scoring an unbeaten 23-ball 41 and adding 97 in just 41 balls in a partnership with Jitesh to seal a six-wicket win with eight balls to spare.
RCB’s chase began perfectly with Phil Salt and Virat Kohli hammering 61 runs in just 5.4 overs. After Salt fell, Kohli held one end firmly. The veteran batter reached his half-century in 27 balls and created history by becoming the first batter to score 9000 T20 runs for a single franchise. However, Kohli’s dismissal for 54 put RCB in a tricky position at 103/4, still needing 125 off 52 balls.

Earlier, LSG posted 227/3 thanks to a scintillating unbeaten 118* from captain Rishabh Pant, his first IPL century since 2018, and Mitchell Marsh’s 67 off 37. But despite the total, LSG’s bowlers had no answers against Bengaluru's batters. RCB also became the first team to win all seven away games in a single IPL season, and now face PBKS in Qualifier 1 with a golden opportunity to reach the final.
