However, Mukesh Kumar and Dhushmantha Chameera conceded 27 and 21 runs in the last two overs as Suryakumar and Naman Dhir took them to the cleaners. Suryakumar finished unbeaten on 73 off 43 balls, while Naman made 24 not out off eight deliveries. MI finished on a brilliant score of 180/5.

In reply, DC lost the wickets of reliable batters du Plessis and KL Rahul in the first three overs and never really recovered from the setbacks. They lost half their side for 65 runs inside the first 10 overs. Sameer Rizvi and Ashutosh Sharma tried to take the visitors to a miraculous win. However, the duo was dismissed in the 15th over by Mitchell Santner, and it ended Delhi's hopes of reaching the playoffs. In the end, the visiting side was bowled out for 121 in 18.2 overs as MI won by 59 runs.
Santner was the pick of the bowlers, finishing with figures of 3/11 in four overs. Meanwhile, Jasprit Bumrah bagged a three-for as well. All other MI bowlers who bowled on Wednesday chipped in with a wicket. With this defeat, the Capitals became the last team to be eliminated from the playoff race.
