PBKS booked their top-two berth with an emphatic win over MI in the penultimate group-stage game of the season.
Punjab Kings clinched a seven-wicket victory over Mumbai Indians in Match 69 of the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. With this win, it was guaranteed that they would finish in the top two of the points table.
Put into bat first, MI began on a steady note. Ryan Rickelton looked promising during his time in the middle. However, he was dismissed for 27 off 20. MI ended the powerplay at a score of 52/1. Rohit Sharma had to walk back after a scratchy 24 off 21. The scoreboard read 83/2 at the halfway stage.
Vijaykumar Vyshak struck in back-to-back overs. Hardik Pandya (26 off 15) could not stay till the end. Suryakumar Yadav (57 off 39) notched up his fifth fifty of the season. He was dismissed on the last ball of the innings. Arshdeep Singh emerged as the standout performer with the ball.
Coming to the run-chase, Deepak Chahar's first over (the innings' second) was a maiden. PBKS got to 47/1 at the end of the powerplay. Priyansh Arya and Josh Inglis seized control of the chase with a regular outflow of boundaries from their willows.
Both batters got to their fifties in the 12th over. Arya was dismissed after scoring 62 off just 35. Inglis top-scored with 73 off 42 after being trapped in front by Mitchell Santner. It was then left to Shreyas Iyer (26* off 16) to apply the finishing touches and guide PBKS to a comfortable victory. Jasprit Bumrah (1/23 in four overs) was the only economical bowler for MI.

Suryakumar rose to the occasion for MI in yet another game this season to craft his way to a half-century. The dynamic batter's innings comprised six fours and two sixes. In doing so, he also went past Sachin Tendulkar's tally of 618 runs to notch up the highest tally for MI in an IPL season.
