IPL 2025: Team-wise playoffs qualification scenario

With Chennai Super Kings, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Rajasthan Royals already knocked out of the IPL 2025 Playoffs, here is the team-wise qualification scenario for the remaining teams, as the tournament resumes from Saturday, May 17 for the Match 58 between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Kolkata Knight Riders. 1. Gujarat Titans – 16 points from 11 matches Prasidh-Krishna. (Photo source: IPL) GT need just one more win from their remaining three games to secure a place in the playoffs. Two wins would likely assure them a top-two finish, providing a valuable second chance to qualify for the finals. 2. Royal Challengers Bengaluru – 16 points from 11 matches Krunal-Pandya-and-Virat-Kohli. (Photo source: X/IPL) RCB also require one win from their last three matches to seal a playoff spot. Winning all three would greatly enhance their chances of finishing in the top two. 3. Punjab Kings – 15 points from 11 matches Punjab-Kings. (Photo source: X/IPL) PBKS need to win their remaining matches to reach 21 points, which would all but guarantee them a place in the playoffs. While two victories would secure qualification, even one win could be sufficient, depending on net run rate and results of other matches. 4. Mumbai Indians – 14 points from 12 matches Hardik Pandya Sad (Source: IPL) MI need to win both of their remaining fixtures to reach 18 points and qualify. Any slip-up would leave their chances hanging on outcomes of other matches, and a better net run rate. 5. Delhi Capitals – 13 points from 11 matches KL Rahul and Axar Patel (Source: Surjeet Yadav/MB Media/Getty Images) DC, currently on 13 points from 11 matches, need to win at least two of their remaining three games to keep their playoff hopes alive. However, the road ahead won’t be easy, as their upcoming fixtures are against teams ranked higher on the points table - Gujarat Titans, Mumbai Indians, and Punjab Kings. Among these, the clash against MI holds the most significance, as MI are direct contenders for the fourth playoff spot. A win against MI, combined with a victory over either GT or PBKS, would put DC in a strong position to qualify for the playoffs. 6. Kolkata Knight Riders – 11 points from 12 matches Kolkata-Knight-Riders. (Photo source: IPL) KKR need to win both of their remaining games to reach 15 points and hope for a series of favourable results in other matches, along with a substantial improvement in their net run rate. 7. They will also need favourable outcomes from other fixtures and a strong net run rate to stay in contention for a spot in the playoffs.
