An unusual moment unfolded during Match No. 67 of IPL 2026 between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Hyderabad on May 22. A lengthy delay caused by a technical issue during a wide review left players, commentators, and fans frustrated early in the contest.

The incident took place on the fifth ball of the match when SRH skipper Pat Cummins delivered a wide full-length ball to Venkatesh Iyer, who was opening the innings for RCB. Iyer shuffled significantly towards the leg side while attempting to play the delivery but failed to make contact. The on-field umpire signalled the ball as legal, prompting RCB to opt for a review despite the delivery appearing comfortably inside the guideline for a wide.

However, what followed surprised everyone in the stadium. The review process experienced an unexpected delay due to what appeared to be a technical malfunction. The third umpire took several minutes before even beginning the replay analysis, resulting in a stoppage that lasted close to five minutes. During the delay, the RCB batters used the opportunity to take an unscheduled mini drinks break in the middle of the over.

The prolonged interruption visibly frustrated players and spectators alike, with confusion surrounding the delay dominating discussions on social media. Once the review process finally resumed, the third umpire upheld the on-field decision, ruling the delivery as not wide.

Here’s how X reacted to the unusually long delay during the review process:
