The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) defeated the Mumbai Indians (MI) by four wickets at the Eden Gardens on Wednesday, May 20, to keep their playoff hopes alive.
Ajinkya Rahane won the toss and opted to field first. The visitors got off to a sedate start before Cameron Green dismissed Ryan Rickelton and Naman Dhir in the third over. Suryakumar Yadav played some breathtaking shots during his 15-run knock off six balls. However, he was dismissed by Saurabh Dubey, who had earlier got the better of Rohit Sharma.
Tilak Varma and Hardik Pandya tried to resurrect the ship, but the surface didn't allow them to shift gears after getting set at the crease. Their 43-run partnership came off 49 balls. However, both of them were dismissed in quick succession. Even a fluent batter like Tilak managed only 20 runs off 32 balls on the sluggish track.
MI were on the ropes at 105/7 in the 17th over. Corbin Bosch played a blinder at the back end of the innings, scoring 32* off 18 balls to take his team to 147/8 in 20 overs.
In reply, KKR lost in-form opener Finn Allen early. However, Ajinkya Rahane and Manish Pandey steadied the innings with a 38-run stand off 28 deliveries. Bosch brought Rahane and Cameron Green in consecutive overs to give Mumbai a sliver of hope.
However, Pandey and Rovman Powell forged a match-winning 64-run stand off 47 balls to take their team to the brink. Pandey, Powell, and concussion substitute for Angkrish Raghuvanshi - Tejasvi Dahiya - were dismissed in quick succession. However, MI didn't have too many runs left to defend.
In the end, Rinku Singh and Anukul Roy took the three-time champions to a comprehensive win in 18.5 overs.
Key moments of the game:
Corbin Bosch all-round efforts go in vain
Corbin Bosch had the near-perfect outing, performing well with bat, ball, and with his fielding. He slammed 32 off 18 balls, hitting three fours and two sixes, batting at a strike rate of 177.78 on a pitch where the bowlers were ruling the roost. He went on to pick up three wickets with the ball and also took a stunning catch to send Dahiya packing.
Sunil Narine bowls yet another world-class spell
Sunil Narine has bowled some fantastic spells on pitches which provided him also no assistance. On Wednesday, he got a pitch where the balls were gripping and turning. He conceded just 13 runs in his four overs and picked up the big wicket of Hardik Pandya with a peach of a delivery.
Manish Pandey impresses in first innings in IPL 2026
Manish Pandey got an opportunity to bat for the first time this season, after watching from the sidelines in the last four games. The right-handed batter walked out to bat at No. 3, with Raghuvanshi suffering a concussion. Pandey used his experience and rotated strike, while hitting the occasional boundary. In the end, he finished on 45 off 33 balls, belting six fours.
