Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) defeated the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by seven wickets at the BRSABV Ekana Cricket Stadium on Friday, May 15.
Rishabh Pant won the toss and opted to bowl first on Friday. Akash Maharaj Singh bowled a brilliant spell with the new ball, playing his first match of the season, and bagged three wickets. However, Kartik Sharma and Dewald Brevis forged a strong partnership of 70 runs off 44 balls to resurrect the ship. However, both batters were dismissed in consecutive overs as LSG fought back once again.
Shivam Dube played a fine cameo of 32* off 16 balls to help CSK get to 187/5 in 20 overs. While Akash bagged a three-for, Mohammed Shami and Shahbaz Ahmed chipped in with a wicket apiece.
In reply, LSG got off to a dream start thanks to Mitchell Marsh. The right-handed batter took the attack to the opposition from the get-go. Josh Inglis, meanwhile, was happy to play second fiddle.
Marsh smashed four consecutive sixes in the fifth over, which was bowled by Anshul Kamboj. After adding a 135-run stand, Inglis was dismissed by Mukul Choudhary in the 12th over. On the very next ball, Marsh was unfortunately run-out at the non-striker's end.
Abdul Samad couldn't make much of an impact on his comeback to the side, but Nicholas Pooran gave himself some time at the start of the innings and finished the game with four back-to-back sixes, with Kamboj once again being on the receiving end. The home side finished on 188/3 in 16.4 overs.
Key moments from the game:
1) Mitchell Marsh pulverises CSK bowlers
Mitchell Marsh had been struggling with his form throughout a major part of the season. However, he is finishing with a flourish. On Friday, he took the CSK bowlers to the cleaners with a clinical display of ball striking. The Australian T20 skipper smashed nine fours and seven sixes during his 90-run knock off 38 balls to make a mockery of CSK's first-innings total.
2) Akash Singh impresses in his first opportunity in IPL 2026
Akash Singh wreaked havoc inside the power play, showing no signs of nerves despite this being his first match in IPL 2026. He bowled aggressive lines and lengths and dismissed Sanju Samson, Ruturaj Gaikwad, and Urvil Patel to rock CSK early in the contest.
3) Kartik Sharma plays stellar knock
Kartik Sharma had to mix caution with aggression after walking out to bat at No. 4. CSK lost three wickets early, and Kartik forged a much-needed partnership with Dewald Brevis. The wicketkeeper-batter hit six fours and five sixes during his exemplary knock of 71 off 42 balls.
