Opener Travis Head departed for a four-ball duck in the first over, while his partner Abhishek Sharma followed suit six balls later. Ishan Kishan showed intent with a boundary and a six, but his stay was short-lived. Ravichandran Smaran, last of the four left-hander heavy top-order, departed after an underwhelming nine off 15. In-form Heinrich Klaasen's fall was another one biting the dust, as SRH lost half the side for 56.

Salil Arora and Nitish Kumar Reddy could not do much, while Cummins tried to counterattack with his nine-ball 19. Gujarat's extremely disciplined bowling performance was spearheaded by Kagiso Rabada and Jason Holder, both of whom got three wickets, while Prasidh Krishna continued his good form with a couple of breakthroughs.
