Sunrisers Hyderabad held their nerves in the last-over thriller against Chennai Super Kings that went right down the wire at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Match 27 of the Indian Premier League 2026 on Saturday, April 18. After setting up a total that seemed subpar at a point, SRH managed to contain CSK courtesy of some exceptional bowling across phases of their defence. SRH are now ranked fourth.

With an uphill move on the points table, the Ishan Kishan-led side looked massively impressive. But the woes for Chennai Super Kings seem to be continuing. The Ruturaj Gaikwad-led side has been struggling a lot, and despite a couple of wins earlier in the season, they have now lost four out of the six games played and are ranked seventh on the table.

The match started with the hosts batting first at a seemingly belter of a track in Hyderabad, and their openers gave a ravishing start, with Abhishek Sharma smashing a fifty off just 15 balls. Abhishek played a thunderous knock of 59, which included six boundaries and four sixes. Despite Ishan Kishan's golden duck, the momentum did not stop for SRH, as Heinrich Klaasen continued his assault for adding 59 off 39.

However, after the set batters were dismissed, CSK managed to pull things back and restricted the flow of runs to enforce SRH into settling for a sub-200 total, getting a target of 195 to chase down. Anshul Kamboj was the pick of the bowlers with 3-22 in his three-over spell. Jamie Overton also picked up three, while Mukesh Choudhary and Gurjapneet were also among the ones providing breakthroughs.

When it came to the chase, CSK made a rollicking start, with Sanju Samson smashing a six off the first ball. Six balls later, Samson had to make his way back, but it called for Ayush Mhatre (30 off 13) to join his skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad (19 off 13) in the middle. Making full use of the field restrictions in the powerplay, CSK smashed 76 runs but also lost three wickets.

Batters came, got starts and departed as wickets kept falling at regular intervals. When the equation was down to needing 30 runs off the last couple of overs, Nitish Kumar Reddy and Praful Hinge stemmed the flow of runs, with CSK eventually falling 10 runs short of the target. Eshan Malinga, however, was the most impressive bowler with his 3 for 29 in four overs.
