The high-voltage clash between Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) is currently underway at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium on May 15 in the ongoing IPL 2026 season. While fans were eagerly awaiting an exciting contest between the two sides, the evening began on an emotional note as players and officials paid tribute to victims of the recent storms that struck several parts of Uttar Pradesh.

The severe storms caused large-scale destruction across multiple districts in the state, with close to 100 people reportedly losing their lives. Districts such as Barabanki, Bahraich, Kanpur Dehat, Basti, Sambhal, Hardoi, and Unnao were among the worst-hit regions. Ahead of the start of play, a minute’s silence was observed at the stadium to honour those who lost their lives in the tragedy. Players from both teams, along with the match officials, also wore black armbands as a mark of respect and solidarity with the affected families.

Speaking about the match, LSG captain Rishabh Pant won the toss and elected to bowl first. Pant stated that the wicket looked slightly tacky and added that the team continues to believe in trust, backing each other, and staying positive despite a difficult campaign.

Meanwhile, CSK skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad said there was a bit of moisture on the surface early on, but expressed confidence in his side’s ability to adjust to the conditions and give 200% in the crucial encounter.

Lucknow Super Giants made a few changes to their playing XI by bringing in Akash Singh while shifting a few players to the Impact Player list. On the other hand, Chennai Super Kings suffered a setback as dependable pacer Jamie Overton was ruled out due to a right thigh injury. Australian speedster Spencer Johnson has replaced him and is set to make his debut for the franchise.

LSG have already been eliminated from the tournament after managing only three wins from 11 matches and currently sit at the bottom of the points table. Meanwhile, CSK are placed fifth with six wins from 11 games and remain firmly in contention for a playoff spot.
