The 2023 IPL Player Auction lived up to the hype as the much-anticipated event in Kochi witnessed Sam Curran becoming the most expensive player in the history of the IPL. His former IPL team Punjab Kings signed him for a staggering 18.50 crores. Curran's compatriot and mercurial all-rounder Ben Stokes also grabbed the headlines after joining the four-time champions Chennai Super Kings for a whopping winning bid of 16.25 crores.
While the two Englishmen were among the top three buys of the 2023 auction, Mumbai Indians shelled out 17.50 crore for Cameron Green as all-rounders swept the floor in the auction. India's star opening batter and former Punjab Kings skipper Mayank Agarwal was the most expensive Indian player at the auction after Sunrisers Hyderabad signed him for 8.25 crores.
The Lucknow Super Giants raised a few eyebrows after signing the former Windies skipper Nicholas Pooran for a whopping sum of 16 crores. Despite an underwhelming 2022, the explosive batters' stocks rose considerably as he was bought for 10.75 crores last year. England's Harry Brook was another player who took home the big bucks after he was captured by Sunrisers Hyderabad for 13.25 crores.
Ireland's Joshua Little became the first Irish player to be bought in the IPL auction after defending champions Gujarat Titans secured his services for 4.4 crores. Sikandar Raza was another cricketer who found himself a franchise after Punjab Kings signed him for a paltry sum of 50 Lakh.
