Former Pakistan Cricket Board chief Ramiz Raja has showered praise on Team India after they retained the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. India had a remarkable win in the first and second Test against Australia. The hosts won the first Test by an innings and 132 runs while the second Test by six wickets. Following the win in the second Test, the Rohit Sharma-led side also moved closer to securing the World Test Championship (WTC) final spot.
Raja was much impressed with the performance of team India in both the Tests. While speaking on his YouTube channel, the former Pakistan skipper claimed that it's impossible for any team to beat India at home. Pointing out Australia's performance, Raja feels like the Pat Cummins-led side didn't prepare well. He also took time to laud India all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja for his stellar bowling display in the second Test in Delhi.
'Australia are not prepared, It's impossible to beat Team India in India' - Ramiz Raja reflected on India's dominance at home
“How Australia’s match has finished, similarly, Aussies used to finish games against sub-continent teams in Perth or Brisbane. The tables have turned. It shows that Australia are not prepared, especially when it comes to playing good Test cricket in India. It’s impossible to beat Team India in India. An ordinary performance against spin. Nine wickets were dismissed in one session. Jadeja produced an excellent bowling performance," Raja said for India's sheer dominance at home.
The former Pakistan cricketer also lauded the Indian all-rounder, Axar Patel, who scored a crucial knock in the 1st innings. Axar played a gritty knock of 74 off 115 balls and ended up becoming India’s top scorer. The Pakistan cricketer later slammed the visitors for their ‘disastrous’ batting display against the Indian spinners. He said that the Cummins-led side played wrong shots throughout the Test.
“The clincher was Axar Patel’s batting. Given the circumstance, he scored 60-70 runs. He shared a partnership with Ashwin when Australia could have got a sizeable lead. That’s because Australia were not mentally strong and there is technical flaws. Their batting against spin is disastrous. They played wrong shots, sweep shots, and ruckus batting,” Raja added.
The Rahul Dravid-coached side hammered Australia by 6 wickets in the second Test at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. Cummins and Co. posted 263 runs in the first innings while India scored 262. The Indian spin duo of Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin produced a stunning display as the tourists were bundled out for 113 runs. The all-rounder registered his career-best figures of 7-42 while the veteran spinner Ashwin bagged three wickets in Australia’s second innings.
Chasing a target of 115, Rohit Sharma and Co. easily won the match to gain an unassailable 2-0 lead in the four-match Test series.
