Hampshire batter Joe Weatherley has put pen to paper on a fresh deal that secures his future at the county through at least the close of the 2028 campaign, the club confirmed on October 28, 2026.

Weatherley, who grew up in Winchester and came through Hampshire's own development pathway, has now appeared in more than 200 matches for the county across all formats since his senior debut in April 2016. He sits third on the all-time list of T20 run-scorers for the club, having compiled 2,741 runs in the format, with only James Vince and Michael Carberry ahead of him.

"I’m really pleased to extend my contract with Hampshire. We’ve got a great group of players, and I’m motivated to contribute across formats and continue our success, particularly in white ball cricket, where we’ve been in knockouts and finals regularly, and bring some trophies home. We are delighted that he has committed his future to the club for a further two years." Weatherley said as quoted by Andover Advertiser.

How did Weatherley perform at the 2026 Vitality Blast?

Weatherley was at his most influential during this year's Vitality Blast Finals Day, where he struck an unbeaten 88 in the semi-final against Notts Outlaws before following that with 75 in the final. In doing so, he became the first man to register two fifties on a single Finals Day in the competition's history.

Those two knocks extended a remarkable record at the showpiece occasion. Across six Finals Day innings throughout his career, Weatherley has now accumulated 330 runs at an average of 82.50, making him the highest individual scorer in the event's history.

Over the full 2026 Blast, he finished as the leading run-scorer among all men's participants, ending the tournament with 591 runs at an average just under 50.

What does Weatherley's broader Hampshire record show?

Weatherley made his Hampshire debut in April 2016 and has since featured in 110 T20 matches for the county. He marked his first-class debut with a half-century and later recorded his maiden professional century in the Royal London Cup, hitting an unbeaten 105 against Kent during the club's title-winning campaign.

He has collected two trophies during his time at Hampshire: the Royal London Cup in 2018 and the Vitality Blast in 2022. Across his career to date, Weatherley has scored 6,163 runs, which includes 31 fifties and five hundreds.
