Cricket is not just a sport in India, it is considered a religion and celebrated like a festival in the country. It has had a great influence across various fields, and recently a question on the sport was asked in the September 20 episode of the show Kaun Banega Crorepati Season 14 (KBC). The question was asked to a contestant and homemaker named Kavita Chawla from Kolhapur.
Kavita had successfully answered all the questions on her way to the ultimate 7.5 Crore question. She impressed the audience and the host of the show Amitabh Bachchan by her composure and confidence. With 1 Crore already in her kitty, she decided to play for the 7.5 Crore question but failed to answer the question and had to quit the game.
Interestingly, the question was about Gundappa Viswanath, one of India’s all-time greatest batters.
“Gundappa Viswanath, the first Indian to score a double century on first-class debut, achieved that feat against which team?” was the 7.5 Crore question for Kavita. Services, Andhra, Maharashtra, Saurashtra were the options available for Kavita and not being sure about her answer, she decided to quit the game.
After quitting the game, she chose option A as her answer but to her surprise option B Andhra was the right answer. Kavita was lauded for the way she played the game.
After the answer, she told that “I do not watch men's cricket, and does not have any interest in the game too”.
Gundappa Viswanath’s impressive numbers in international cricket
Viswanath had a fantastic career for India. He played 91 Tests and scored 6080 runs at an average of 41.93. He scored 14 centuries and 35 half centuries in his Test career while he also played 25 ODIs for India. Viswanath scored a century on his international debut as well apart from his first-class double century on debut and had a great influence on Indian cricket.
He played his last Test in 1983 against Pakistan and announced his retirement after that. He is still fondly remembered for the way he used his wrists effectively.
