Lewis Goldsworthy signs contract extension with Somerset

All-rounder Lewis Goldsworthy has signed a new contract with Somerset, which will keep him at the county until at least the end of the 2028 season. A one-club man, the 25-year-old first made his debut for the side back in 2021 and is now set to continue his long association with them for two more years. 

Goldsworthy has established himself as one of the more important all-format players for Somerset, having played 132 times for the county to score upwards of 3,500 runs and take 75 wickets. This includes hitting 212 runs in the 2026 County Championship. 

The 2026 season in particular has been a huge step forward as far as Goldsworthy's Somerset career is concerned. The spin-bowling all-rounder was appointed captain of the Taunton-based side for the 2026 One Day Cup, where he led from the front against Warwickshire. The right-handed batter scored his third List A century, hitting 103 off just 90 balls to help his side secure a comfortable 125-run victory. 

“This means a lot. Growing up in Cornwall, I was always coming to Taunton to watch Somerset so to be able to do something that I love for a living is really special. Playing for Somerset is all I’ve ever wanted to do. The Members and supporters here are so special, and we play at such an iconic ground, so this means an awful lot to me and I’m just happy that I’m able to keep on doing it. Over the next two years I want to keep helping the Club push for that County Championship title and help us to keep doing what we’re doing in white ball cricket," Lewis Goldsworthy said on Somerset's website. 

Goldsworthy has had a successful tenure with Somerset in his relatively short career. The all-rounder formed part of the 2023 and 2025 T20 Blast-winning squads. Though he did not play in the 2023 final against Essex, he was part of the playing XI that faced Hampshire last year, taking the all-important wicket of Hawks' captain James Vince, who was batting on 52.
