India are enjoying a dominant run in the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 as they’ve won five matches on the trot. The Rohit Sharma-led side are the only unbeaten team in the tournament ranking on the top of the points table with ten points to their name from five matches. One of the major factors in India’s terrific run in the cricketing carnival so far has been the red-hot form of their star batter Virat Kohli who’s the second-highest run scorer of the tournament.
Former England captain Michael Vaughan is mighty pleased with Kohli’s form and believes that he will break Sachin Tendulkar’s record of most ODI hundreds in the ongoing mega event. Vaughan further said that it’s all written in the stars for the batting superstar and compared him with the legendary Argentina footballer Lionel Messi who brought his ‘A game’ to the fore to help his side win the FIFA World Cup in 2022. Notably, Messi was awarded Player of the Tournament as he led his team to a historic triumph.

“Virat Kohli in the chase, there's no one better. It wouldn't surprise me if he gets a 49th before the final, and his 50th in the final. It's written in the stars. I actually put it on social media – great, great players always arrive in World Cups. It defines their legacies. Look at the footballers, Lionel Messi had to win the World Cup for Argentina, and he did it. Virat has already won a World Cup but you just feel he's going to drive the Indian team all the way,” Vaughan said on Club Prairie Fire podcast.
Notably, Kohli has 48 ODI hundreds and came mighty close to levelling Tendulkar’s world record of 49 centuries in the format during India’s last fixture against New Zealand in Dharamsala. However, he fell five runs short of the milestone and got dismissed on 95 trying to reach the landmark with a six.
