Stephen Fleming, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) head coach, has provided a significant update on their star pacer Deepak Chahar's injury, stating that it is a 'minor' niggle and expects him to return to action shortly. CSK, led by Ruturaj Gaikwad are now gearing up to take on Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the 34th match of the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) at the Ekana Cricket Stadium on Friday, April 19.

Fleming mentioned that Chahar is making considerable progress and is currently undergoing rehabilitation. He also noted that Shardul Thakur, who came in place of Chahar in CSK's previous match against Mumbai Indians, performed admirably and the team has decided to bench the pacer in the forthcoming match to ensure his full recovery. Notably, on Sunday, April 14, Thakur, who replaced Chahar in the lineup, didn't pick any wickets but effectively managed the scoring rate, giving away just 35 runs in his full quota while also completing two significant catches.

"He (Chahar) is doing his rehabs well. It was a minor injury nothing to worry about. Shardul Thakur bowled well in the last match against Mumbai so we opted to give time to Chahar to recover well," Fleming said at the pre-match press conference.

Chennai Super Kings are coming off a convincing 20-run victory over arch-rivals Mumbai Indians. Posting a formidable total of 206/4 in their allotted 20 overs, CSK successfully restricted Mumbai to 186/6 despite former MI captain Rohit Sharma's stellar century. Led by Ruturaj Gaikwad, Chennai currently occupies the third spot in the IPL 2024 points table, boasting 8 points from 4 wins in 6 games.

On the flip side, Lucknow Super Giants have experienced a rollercoaster ride so far in their IPL 2024 campaign. Starting with a defeat, they bounced back, winning three consecutive games. However, they stumbled in their last two matches and are desperate to win the game against the five-time champions.
