The inaugural season of Major League Cricket (MLC) 2023 held its landmark player draft recently, and the tournament is scheduled to begin in July 2023; the commencement of the competition could be under a major threat after disputes between USA Cricket and the tournament organisers.

Several reports have shown that USA Cricket has not yet sanctioned either the MLC or the Minor League Cricket (MiLC). However, the inability to get the sanction from USA Cricket did not stop the tournament from announcing many big names like Aaron Finch, Quinton De Kock, and many more who will feature.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) recently issued a statement that classified the tournaments as 'disapproved' because it was not sanctioned by USA Cricket.

"Members may be aware of the following two events proposed to be played in the USA; applications for sanction have been submitted to USA Cricket, but these events have not yet been sanctioned by USA Cricket. Consequently, without a sanction from the host member, both events are currently deemed to be disapproved cricket, and as such, members should not issue NOCs to their players to participate in either event," the ICC stated.

We don't believe the letter was a warning at all: MLC director Justin Geale

Following the release of the statement by ICC, the tournament director of the MLC, Justin Geale, recently came forward and gave his take on the statement released by ICC that branded the tournament as ‘disapproved'.

"We are aware of the recent letter that the ICC sent to its membership regarding the status of MiLC and MLC. We don't believe the letter was a warning, since it was merely factual information that the events are not yet sanctioned as the member boards need that confirmation to issue NOCs to the players," Justin Geale told ESPNcricinfo.
