Namibia beat Ireland by five wickets in series decider to claim historic ODI series win
JJ Smit and Jack Brassell starred as Namibia restricted Ireland to 129 and chased down the target in 21.2 overs at Windhoek to seal a landmark series victory.
Namibia sealed a historic five-wicket victory over Ireland in the fifth and deciding ODI at the Namibia Cricket Ground in Windhoek on November 1, 2026, clinching the series 3-2. It is the first time Namibia have won an ODI series against a full-member nation, marking a significant milestone for Associate cricket.
Ireland were bowled out for 129 in 33.1 overs after Namibia's bowlers applied consistent pressure throughout the innings. JJ Smit was the standout with 3 wickets, while Jack Brassell returned figures of 4-20 to dismantle the Irish middle and lower order. Matthew Humphreys chipped in with 2-48 to complete a disciplined bowling effort.
The Irish innings unravelled quickly at the top. Max Heingo removed Andrew Balbirnie for just 9 off the first ball he faced, and Ruben Trumpelmann dismissed Tim Tector for 5 in the second over. Brassell then bowled Cade Carmichael for 27, and Lorcan Tucker, who had struck two sixes in a brisk 20 off 14 balls, was caught off Smit.
George Dockrell was trapped lbw in the 23rd over, and Curtis Campher was also dismissed by Smit. Jordan Neill top-scored for Ireland with 33, but his resistance was not enough. Ireland's last seven wickets fell for just 45 runs, leaving them well short of a competitive total.
Namibia's chase was measured and controlled. Louren Steenkamp contributed 46, falling just four runs short of a half-century, while Gerhard Erasmus made 30 off 18 balls, hitting two fours off Gavin Hoey and a six before being dismissed. Michael van Lingen scored 15 before falling to Jai Moondra, who had earlier been given a reprieve when a tough catch off Harry Tector at first slip was put down by Malan Kruger.
Jan Frylinck struck two fours in the 10th over before being bowled by Matthew Humphreys. Erasmus had earlier struck a four off Humphreys as well. Zane Green finished the match with a six in the 22nd over, taking Namibia to 131 for 5 and completing the chase with ease.
How did Ireland's batting collapse shape the match?
Ireland's innings never recovered from the early blows at the top of the order. Balbirnie's dismissal for 9 off the very first ball he faced set a nervous tone, and Tector's exit for 5 in the second over left Ireland two down inside the powerplay. Carmichael offered some resistance with 27 before Brassell cleaned him up, and Tucker's cameo of 20 off 14 balls briefly threatened to shift momentum.
However, once Smit removed Tucker and then trapped Campher and Dockrell in the 23rd over, Ireland's innings folded rapidly. The last seven wickets added only 45 runs, with Neill's 33 the only score of note in the lower half. Brassell's 4-20 was the decisive bowling performance, restricting Ireland to a total that Namibia were always likely to overhaul.
