Suryakumar Yadav, the top batter for the Mumbai Indians, showcased his power-hitting prowess on Friday night, slamming Gujarat Titans' bowlers all over the ground to score his first IPL century. The 32-year-old rose to fame in the IPL for his unique shot selection and earned massive praise over the years, but had to wait 4053 days before getting his first IPL ton as he notched up 103* off 49 balls.

Suryakumar displayed a variety of shots during his time on the field, but his six against Mohammed Shami in the 19th over of the first innings left many startled. Even the legendary Sachin Tendulkar, one of the best hitters in cricket history, tried to imitate the six when he was seated in the dugout and took to his social media to praise that particular shot.

It was not just Tendulkar who was in awe of the shot, as former Australian cricketer Tom Moody too expressed his views on that maximum, saying that he had never seen any player hitting the ball in that manner. In order to add as many runs as possible to the scoreboard, he purposefully chopped the ball over short third after Shami had attempted to pitch the delivery wide outside off.

At first glance, it appeared as though Suryakumar was going for a grounded shot, but he rotated his wrist at the very last moment to send it over the fence for a six.

“That particular ball, I don't think I've ever seen a six hit over third man with a vertical bat. I've seen hit with a horizontal bat, a cut shot going over third man. I've never seen a six hit with a vertical bat off the middle of the bat, I've even seen a thick-edge fly. Never seen it before in my life!,” Moody told ESPNCricinfo.

“I've seen nearly 10 million balls bowled in my lifetime in all forms of the game, and I've never seen that before. It was totally mint. It was in his head, and no one else's head, that he was capable of doing that,” he added.
