Youngster Yashasvi Jaiswal played some brilliant cricket in Rajasthan Royals’ match against Mumbai Indians on April 30, scoring his maiden century in the competition. The 21-year-old hit 124 runs off just 62 deliveries and helped Rajasthan Royals post 212 runs after 20 overs.
Even though the Sanju Samson-led side failed to win, Jaiswal was highly appreciated by India skipper Rohit Sharma and by RR director of cricket and head coach, Kumar Sangakkara. Talking about his incredible knock, the former Sri Lanka cricketer mentioned that Jaiswal has spent a lot of time in the practice sessions and is extremely dedicated.
The 45-year-old went on to add that other than being talented, Jaiswal is very hard-working and has the ability to learn things really quickly. He also believes that with these kinds of performances in the ongoing IPL 2023, Jaiswal can soon feature for India.
“He is not just extremely talented but also really hard-working. He has spent a lot of time in preparations, a lot of time in the nets working on his preparations. He has worked on his game for three to four years with us and it shows he is very focused and driven and the results are showing,” Sangakkara said in the post-match press conference.
“He played beautifully today. He batted almost entirely through the innings, which was exceptional. He set us up for a fantastic total. Yash has a long way to go, not just with us, but internationally. He just needs to keep working hard, keep producing the runs and knocking on that door. The great thing about Yash is that he learns and he keeps learning very quickly. He’s got a great attitude. He’s very positive in everything that he does,” he added.
Notably, Jaiswal has smashed 428 runs in nine matches and is currently at the top of the IPL Orange Cap list. On the other hand, after suffering a six-wicket defeat, Rajasthan remain third on the IPL Points Table.
