Who won Pakistan vs Sri Lanka 3rd ODI today? — Match result & turning points
Pakistan completed a whitewash over Sri Lanka after winning the third and final ODI by six wickets at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on Sunday, November 16.
Shaheen Afridi won the toss and opted to bowl first on Sunday. Sri Lanka's top four batters got starts but couldn't convert them into substantial scores. Mohammad Wasim Jr was the pick of the bowlers, as he bagged a three-for. Debutant Pavan Rathnayake scored a fighting 32 in the back end of the innings to take the Lankan past the 200-run mark. The tourists were eventually bowled out for 211 in 45.2 overs.
In reply, Pakistan lost the wicket of Haseebullah Khan early in the piece. Jeffrey Vandersay bowled well after a solid partnership from Fakhar Zaman and Babar Azam. The veteran leg-spinner bagged three wickets as Pakistan were reduced to 115/4 in the 25th over after cruising at one stage at 82/1.
However, Mohammad Rizwan and Hussain Talat's unbeaten 100-run partnership off 122 balls helped Pakistan reach home in 44.4 overs, with six wickets to spare.
Top batting performance of the match - Fakhar Zaman
Haseebullah Khan opened with Fakhar and scored a 12-ball duck. Some batters would have felt the pressure as only eight runs came in the first four overs. However, Fakhar showed no such signs as he played the balls on their merit and scored his runs at a fair clip. He brought up his half-century in just 39 balls. The southpaw was eventually dismissed by Vandersay for 45-ball 55, as Kamindu Mendis took a great catch at deep mid-wicket.
Best bowling spells — Mohammad Wasim Jr
Mohammad Wasim Jr mixed his length up commendably, as the Sri Lanka batters failed to cope. He wasn't afraid to bowl the bouncer, keeping the opposition batters guessing. In the end, the right-arm pacer finished with figures of 3/47 in 10 overs. During his phenomenal spell of bowling, he picked up the wickets of Kamil Mishara, Kusal Mendis, and Vandersay.
Records Broken and Major Milestones Achieved
- Pakistan won their eighth ODI series at home since 2015.
- Mohammad Rizwan brought up his 19th ODI half-century.
Who was the Player of the Match?
Mohammad Wasim Jr won the Player of the Match award for his stunning spell of bowling. While receiving the award, he said that bowling dot balls was his primary target as he feels that it builds pressure and eventually brings wickets.
