The T20 World Cup 2022 was full of twists and turns, and all predictions that were made earlier proved to be incorrect. All the teams gave their best in the tournament, and some teams, even after being eliminated from the race, managed to bag crucial wins to change the qualification scenarios completely.
The final four semi-finalists of the tournament were revealed only on the final day of the Super 12 stage, when Pakistan defeated Bangladesh to seal the last remaining spot. New Zealand topped their group and became the first team to qualify, while England followed them next from that group. India qualified for the knockout stage after South Africa faced an upset against the Netherlands.
Pakistan are a dangerous side now: Nikhil Chopra
Former India cricketer Nikhil Chopra spoke about the final few matches of the T20 World Cup 2022 which changed the course of the tournament. While speaking on 'BatBricks7 presents Run Ki Runneeti' show on CricTracker, Chopra said:
“Before the South Africa vs Netherlands game took place, Pakistan and Bangladesh must have thought that their contest would not be of any importance. Hats off to the Netherlands, just when South Africa started planning for the semi-finals they put up a brilliant performance to win the game by 13 runs. Pakistan and Bangladesh, who had been at the same venue for their contest that was scheduled next, towards the end of the Netherlands’ game, would have realized how important their final game was because both had chances of making it to the semi-finals.”
“Bangladesh opted to bat first, and their start was not bad. But then Pakistan spinners controlled the game and Shaheen Shah Afridi registered his best bowling figures. Just when we thought Pakistan were out of the tournament, they have bounced back like a formidable force and are a dangerous side now. India will top their group and will face England in the semi-final. Pakistan will face New Zealand, the toppers of Group 1, and that contest is going to be very interesting and intriguing.”
