Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has decided to dissolve the national selection committee and is set to form a new one ahead of the T20 World Cup 2024, which is set to commence in less than three months.

On Friday, March 22, PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi and former chief selector Wahab Riaz arrived at the PCB headquarters in Lahore for a meeting. The decision to scrap the existing selection committee was taken during this meeting.

According to a PCB release, Riaz presented a detailed report on the performances of several players in the recently concluded Pakistan Super League. Following this, Naqvi stressed the importance of picking players based on their merits. The decision to form a new selection committee was subsequently taken.

"The existing selection committee has been dissolved. The new selection committee will be announced soon," the PCB spokesperson said in a statement.

The PCB has ensured that the next selection committee will be named soon and it will have the authority to make independent decisions for the betterment of the national team. The selection methods of the forthcoming committee will be transparent and the selections will be made purely based on merit.

"The new selection committee's decisions on merit would be in front of everyone to see," it concluded.

Naqi announced at a news conference in Karachi on Monday night that he will revamp the selection committee and give it the independence and authority to make cricket-related decisions.

"But I believe that the selection committee should be empowered enough to be able to take these important decisions. The credit and blame will then lie with the committee, along with the coach and captain. Since they are responsible to bring results, they will be making decisions," Naqvi said.
