People who haven't achieved much are deciding futures of Rohit Sharma-Virat Kohli, reckons Harbhajan Singh
Rohit and Kohli, who have already retired from T20Is and Tests, are currently featuring in India's squad during the ODI series against South Africa.
Former Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh has come up with a controversial take concerning the people in charge of deciding ace batters Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli's future in One-Day Internationals. Rohit and Kohli, who have already retired from T20Is and Tests, are featuring for the Men in Blue in the ongoing ODI series against South Africa.
Harbhajan revealed a massive statement, claiming that people who had not achieved much in their playing days themselves had cut short many of his teammates' careers, including himself. Harbhajan called the situation 'unfortunate' in the case of Rohit and Kohli. However, the ex-spinner is quite content with how the duo is continuously scoring runs despite being under immense scrutiny about their remaining ODI careers.
“It is beyond our understanding. I may not be able to answer because I have been a player myself and what I have seen has happened to me as well. It has happened to many of my teammates, but it is very unfortunate. We don’t talk about it or have a discussion about it,” Harbhajan was quoted as saying by India Today.
“It is a bit unfortunate that those people are deciding about their future who have not achieved much. They have always scored runs and have always been great players for India. I’m so happy for them, they are going very, very strong. Not just going strong, but setting the example for the younger generation to follow and what it takes to be a champion,” Harbhajan added.
Rohit and Kohli have been constantly under the pump since the past several months. However, the two have not let the pressure get to them. Rohit emerged as the Player of the Series in the recently-concluded ODI series against Australia while playing Down Under. Kohli has struck two back-to-back tons in the ongoing ODI series against the Proteas, showing a superb run of form despite age not being on his side.
