Former New Zealand cricketer Simon Doull has hit back at a viscious troll who abused him on social media, after Doull had criticised current Pakistani skipper Babar Azam for his performance in the ongoing Pakistan Super League 2023 (PSL).

On March 8, Peshawar Zalmi locked horns with Quetta Gladiators in an unbelievably high scoring match. Batting first, Peshawar Zalmi had lodged a total of 240 in 20 overs, which was comfortably chased down by Quetta Gladiators with 8 wickets and 10 balls to spare.

Simon Doull was on his commentary duties during the match performing which, he made a critical comment on Babar Azam's batting which, apparently, didn't go well with one of his fans.

An online troll who goes by the name of Feroze Khan got back at Doull and used filthy language to abuse him, asking him to not say a word against Azam and go back to New Zealand.

Replying to him, Doull absolutely scorned his distasteful remarks and categorically mentioned that while it was absolutely ok for individuals to disagree with a particular statement, the use of such language could never be acceptable.

“So sorry to have upset you Feroz. It’s just an opinion and I get paid for it. It’s ok if you don’t agree but this language is never ok. And my mother has also passed," the 53-year-old commented on his Instagram page where the abuser had posted the troll. The former Kiwi bowler also posted a screenshot of the comments made by the abuser.

Simon Doull was harassed by a Pakistani after he gave his honest opinion on plastic king’s statpadding innings. What a world are we living in? Shame on the people there! Abusing him doesn’t change that Babar is a loser and belongs nowhere. Stay strong @Sdoull. #Cricket #PSL2023

Stats are great, but it has to be team first: Doull

For the unversed, Doull was on air during Peshawar Zalmi's batting in the match played against Quetta Gladiators. He was commentating when Babar Azam struck a century which failed to impress Doull. Doull felt that Azam was giving preference to personal milestones more than his team's success, after the skipper was carefully and steadily dealing in singles and doubles, avoiding the risk of missing out on his century by going big.

“Rather than putting the team first... the last little while, that's all that been happening. Rather than looking for boundaries, still, so much firepower to come. Hundreds are brilliant, stats are great, but it has to be team first,” Doul commented.

Babar was on 80 off 44 at one point but took 16 more deliveries to get to his maiden PSL century, which he completed by hitting a boundary. He later went on to score 115 runs off 65 balls, which helped his team reach a mammoth total of 240/2.
