The much-awaited Asia Cup 2023 concluded with India dominating Sri Lanka in the final and defeating the Dasun Shanaka-led side by 10 wickets. It was highly anticipated that India and Pakistan would face off in the final, but fate had other ideas.
In the Super Four stage of the tournament, India had a remarkable game against Pakistan. They defeated Pakistan by a massive 228 runs, thanks to brilliant centuries by Virat Kohli (122) and KL Rahul (111). Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill also scored fifties and provided a great start for the team. However, the match was affected by rain and had to be halted for almost 24 hours.
During a recent Sports Summit 2023 show on Times of India, former star batter Suresh Raina shared his thoughts on the Asia Cup and the India-Pakistan game. When asked if he was following the Asia Cup and his views on the India-Pakistan game, Raina compared it to a three-day Test match.
He praised the team's performance, highlighting the strong comeback by Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya's dismissal of Babar Azam, and the different bowling styles of Shardul Thakur and Mohammed Siraj. Raina also acknowledged Kuldeep Yadav as the trump card along with Jadeja and praised Rohit Sharma for selecting a good team for the upcoming World Cup.
"It was like a 3-day Test match. Toss hua, wo log teen din se majdoori kar rahe the hum log batting kar rahe the. The way we played, Bumrah made a strong comeback, and Hardik dismissing Babar, Shardul and Siraj these are all different kinds of bowlers and Kuldeep turned out to be the Trump card along with Jadeja and then having a trio with Axar also there, so all the bases were covered and Rohit Sharma has picked a good team for the World Cup," he said.
The much-awaited ODI World Cup 2023 is all set to start on October 5 as the finalists of the last edition, England and New Zealand will be up against each other in the opener of the tournament.
