Former India batter Virender Sehwag voiced his opinion on Mumbai Indians (MI) skipper Rohit Sharma’s lean patch in the ongoing IPL 2023. Notably, the skipper has failed to score much and has registered two ducks on the trot in the last two fixtures.

Ahead of the eagerly-anticipated clash against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), Sehwag reflected on Rohit’s dismal campaign and stated that his struggles have been more on the mental side rather than technical.

"Rohit Sharma is not battling with the bowlers but with himself. There is a mental block. There's no problem with his batting technique. Some confusion is going on in his mind. But the day he gets going, we will make up for all the previous matches,” Sehwag told Star Sports.

Rohit has only managed a meagre 184 runs at an underwhelming average of 18.40 in 10 games this season. In addition to this, he attained an unceremonious record during the clash against arch-rivals CSK, as he registered his 16th duck, the most in the history of the top-tier league.

Imran Tahir lauds Virat Kohli’s dedication

In the same segment, former South Africa cricketer Imran Tahir lavished massive praise on RCB batter Virat Kohli’s dedication and hard work. Tahir stated that the flamboyant batter’s urge to score runs consistently for the last 15 years was something to be appreciated.

"Virat Kohli has always had the urge to score runs. You can score maximum runs in one season, two or three seasons, but if you are successful in doing this for 15 consecutive seasons, then it can be attributed to the result of your hard work and dedication. What Virat has done in the last 15 years is really commendable,” Tahir told on Star Sports.

Though Kohli has been at the receiving end of a lot of criticism for his batting approach, he has amassed 419 runs at an average of 46.56, with six fifties under his belt. RCB and MI play a crucial match on Tuesday, May 9, as the result will be pivotal in the qualification for the play-offs.
