Former India captain Rohit Sharma has shown great signs of form of late in the one-day format. Ever since his retirement from T20I and Test cricket, Rohit has shown full commitment to the 50-over format and is also aiming to play and win the ODI World Cup in 2027, adding the most illustrious feather to his cap. Despite being deprived of captaincy, Rohit's batting numbers have remained thoroughly impressive.

The ace opening batter will next be seen opening for the Men in Blue in the three-match series against Afghanistan. The first ODI will be played on Saturday, June 13, at the beautiful venue of the HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala. Ahead of the upcoming assignment, Rohit already has the experience of playing against Afghanistan thrice in the ODI format. He also boasts an impressive record against the neighbouring nation.

Rohit has played three One-Day Internationals against the Afghans as of today and has managed to score 150 runs against the opposition at an exceptional average of 75.00. His strike rate against them has also been quite extraordinary at 127.11, which is insanely good in the format. He has also scored a century in his most recent meeting against the side.

The Nagpur-born faced the likes of Afghanistan for the first time in March 2014 during the Asia Cup that year. However, he did not bat at his usual opening position in this match, coming to the crease at number three instead. As India were chasing, Rohit's unbeaten 18 was all that was needed to add the finishing touch to an easy eight-wicket win for the Men in Blue.

He had to wait for another five years before another match against the Afghans, this time coming against them in the ODI World Cup 2019 in the league-stage match at Southampton. However, he failed miserably, departing for just one after a ten-ball stay at the crease. India won the match on the back of Virat Kohli's superb knock (67) and a hat-trick by Mohammed Shami, marking an end to a thrilling contest.

The third and the most recent outing for the veteran batter against the Afghans came during the 2023 World Cup at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, New Delhi. This time, Rohit took the perfect revenge of his poor knock previously, smashing a thunderous 131 off just 84 balls. This blistering knock was laced with sixteen fours and five mammoth sixes.
