Rohit Sharma has not played the last five matches for the Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. He has been back at training since last week. However, fans are still waiting for the former India captain to make his comeback.

On Monday, May 4, the five-time champions are set to face the Lucknow Super Giants at the iconic Wankhede Stadium. As per reports from Cricbuzz, Rohit has been given the freedom by the team management to decide his own availability for the upcoming encounter.

On the eve of the match, the 39-year-old was seen batting for almost an hour and going through fitness drills on the eve of the match. This could be an indication that the five-time IPL-winning skipper could be back in action on Monday.

If Rohit makes his way back in the side, he should join Ryan Rickelton at the top of the order, with Will Jack moving back to the finisher's role. Hardik Pandya and Co. are in dire straits, having lost seven matches and won just two so far. Rohit's return would come as relief to the Mumbai-based franchise as his experience is worth its weight in gold.

Before getting injured during the clash against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru on April 12, Rohit scored 137 runs in four innings at an average of 34.25 and a strike rate of 165.07.

Meanwhile, the Lucknow Super Giants are not in great form either. The Rishabh Pant-led side has only won two matches and lost six. They are languishing at the bottom of the points table with a net run rate of -1.106 compared to the Mumbai Indians' -0.803.

Mumbai will be coming into this contest on the back of an eight-wicket defeat to arch-rivals Chennai Super Kings. Meanwhile, Lucknow will return to action after a lengthy break, following their Super Over defeat against the Kolkata Knight Riders on April 26. The team which loses on Monday could bid farewell to their hopes of reaching the playoffs.
