Ryan ten Doeschate set to rejoin KKR coaching unit after signing off from Indian team

Ryan ten Doeschate is all set to rejoin the coaching staff of the Kolkata Knight Riders after quitting his role with the Indian men's team recently. Notably, the series against England was the last for ten Doeschate and he has now officially relieved himself of the duties with the Men in Blue, where he played the role of an assistant coach post the 2024 T20 World Cup under his favourite colleague, Gautam Gambhir.

If the reports are to be believed, ten Doeschate will be making a return to the KKR set-up, a team where he has been involved in roles as both a player and a coach. He has often been under Gambhir throughout his various stints in the IPL and with the Indian team. Gambhir, who is expected to lead the team at least until the 2027 World Cup, will continue to remain as the head coach, as he is currently seeking a new assistant.

According to Cricinfo, the former Netherlands skipper had already informed the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) regarding his exit at the end of the England tour. The report adds that the Dutch veteran will be under Abhishek Nayar as the fielding coach at the three-time champion franchise. Notably, he was with KKR during all of their title-winning seasons – 2012 and 2014 as a player and 2024 as an assistant coach.

Ten Doeschate had also spent time with Nayar in the dressing room, as the latter had also joined the side as the assistant coach but left a year later and is now the head coach with the Knight Riders. The 46-year-old has seen a fair bit of success during his brief tenure with the Indian team. The Men in Blue clinched the Asia Cup and the Champions Trophy in 2025 while also defending the T20 World Cup title in 2026.

Ten Doeschate has reportedly resigned from the Indian team due to unfulfilled promises made to him by the BCCI, where he was told to be given the position as the fielding coach at the end of T. Dilip's term, which was later extended. Neither BCCI nor Ten Doeschate has openly addressed the matter, and the board will now start its hunt to fill the void left by the assistant coach's exit.
