Vaibhav Suryavanshi was dismissed cheaply in the first ODI against the South Africa U-19 side before scoring a blistering fifty in the second. However, he slammed a three-figure score in the final ODI on Wednesday, January 7, at the Willowmoore Park in Benoni.
India had already sealed the three-match series by winning the first two ODIs convincingly. In the third ODI, Proteas captain Muhammed Bulbulia won the toss and opted to field first. However, this didn't turn out to be a great move as the Indian openers hammered the opposition bowling with disdain.
Suryavanshi was the wrecker-in-chief as he raced to his fifty off just 24 balls in the eighth over. He reached the milestone with a boundary behind square on the off-side. The southpaw slowed down a bit after getting his half-century and was also dropped in the 13th over. However, he managed to break the shackles in the 16th over, hitting two sixes off medium pacer Paul James.
The Bihar batter brought up his century in the 23rd over, taking a single off Jason Rowles' bowling. He took just 63 balls to get to the mark. He had hit seven fours and eight sixes en route to his ton. After getting to a three-figure score, the 14-year-old went from strength to strength and hit two fours and two sixes before getting dismissed in the 26th over.
Ntando Soni got the better of Suryavanshi, as he pulled a short of length delivery towards deep backward square, as Rowles moved to his left to take a fine catch. The Indian skipper was dismissed for 127 runs after facing just 74 balls. He belted nine fours and 10 sixes during his electrifying knock and finished with a strike rate of 171.62.
