Sachin Tendulkar still believes in me, has asked me to come back on right track: Prithvi Shaw
"Arjun [Tendulkar] and I have been friends since we were 8-9 years old," Prithvi Shaw.
Prithvi Shaw came to prominence as a teenager, scoring a century on his Ranji Trophy debut for Mumbai. He also led India to the U-19 World Cup title in 2018. The right-handed batter also scored a ton on his Test debut against the West Indies.
He was earmarked for greatness, with some experts and fans billing him as the next Sachin Tendulkar. However, things have gone haywire for the diminutive cricketer in recent years as he has nOt represented India since 2021 and went unsold in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction.
Shaw has been friends with Arjun Tendulkar, Sachin Tendulkar's son, for a very long time. The Master Blaster has witnessed the turbulences in Shaw's career from close quarters. In a recent interview, the 25-year-old said that Sachin still believes in him and has urged him to get back on the right track as earlier.
"Sachin sir knows about my journey. Arjun and I have been friends since we were 8-9 years old. We’ve played together, grown up together. Sir was also there sometimes. I had a word with him a little while ago too. Hardly 2 month ago. He was practicing at the MIG. And I was there too. I spoke to him then too. When things go awry and you drift away, you need that mentor, who can light a spark into you,” Shaw said while speaking to News24.
“He still believes in me. He said 'Prithvi, I still believe in you, and I'll continue to do so'. Because he has seen me grow up. Even today, he tells me 'Sahi track pe aa ja, jaise pehle tha' (Come back on the same track as earlier). Everything is possible in the next 13-14 years. So he believes in me and that means a lot," he added.
Mohammed Shami sends stern message to India's bowling unit
Shaw recently wrote to the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) requesting a No Objection Certificate (NOC) as he wants to explore playing opportunities elsewhere. According to various reports, Shaw could be joining Maharashtra ahead of the upcoming domestic season.
