With five runs needed to win in one ball, debutant Sanjeevan Sajana smashed Alice Capsey for a six to help Mumbai Indians pick up a four-wicket win over Delhi Capitals in the opening game of the second edition of the Women’s Premier League (WPL).

MI skipper Harmanpreet Kaur played a brilliant knock of 55 runs off 34 deliveries but couldn’t help her team cross the line as she got out on the penultimate delivery of the match. It forced Sajana to make her way into the middle of a pressure situation but she handled it perfectly as the 29-year-old danced down the track and hit it over long-on to win the game.

MI wicket-keeper-batter Yastika Bhatia was impressed with the performance of the debutant and went onto say that Sajana is the Kieron Pollard of their team.

“If you have watched Harry di (Harmanpreet Kaur) speak in interviews before, she mentioned that Sajana is a player to watch out for in this WPL. MI have faith in her and she is like Kieron Pollard of the women’s team. She has got that role, and she did really well, credit goes to her,” Yastika said in the post-match press conference as quoted by India Today.

I want to win as many games as possible for MI: Yastika

Yastika also played a crucial part in Mumbai’s win over Delhi at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. The opener set the tone as she made 57 off 45. The 23-year-old took complete advantage of the powerplay and despite losing her partner Hayley Matthews early, Yastika did not lose confidence and managed to keep going.

I knew that if I did that right, I focused on the process, that thing would be taken care of. I want to win as many games as possible for MI,” Yastika said.
